How to take advantage of your market using Snapchat Geofilters

You may have noticed while walking around your city that different filters pop up from time to time. Sometimes you see it once a week or maybe you have used one once and its gone! This is thanks to Snapchat’s On-Demand Geofilters. Marketers or really anyone is able to purchase a Geofilter in a chosen territory (up to 5 million square feet) for a certain amount of time. Some filters are purchased round the clock, while others may have been present for an event or holiday in your area. The actual process of buying a Geofilter is rather easy and simple to use ( and the tools the site uses walks you through the process seamlessly. Step one is to choose a design offered using the basic templates or upload your own design. You can get pretty creative, however, there is some guidelines you must follow. The second step is to pick a date and time. The third part is the fun part, and that is picking your location. When I got to this step I was actually really surprised at the pricing. I was put on to this by my friend and colleague Brendan Ryder (thanks man!). We were looking at the options of using a Geofilter around Rogers Arena. We were excited / baffled to see the area around the arena was only 30$USD during the evening. After checking to see if there was a game that night and realizing there was not we were let down haha. Brendan switched it to a game night and the cost was $5000.00 USD. This prompted us to see if there was any other hot spots that spiked during events or high traffic times. We quickly realized there was an opportunity for businesses. After looking up the costs of putting a filter around universities in Edmonton we found out it was pretty cheap to reach 15,000 to 20,000 consumers for a day. Above is the screen shot of targeting the University of Alberta. The second screen shot is for Edmonton’s bustling Whyte Avenue on a Friday Night during peak hours at the bars. Again another targeted area to 18-30 year old. This is pretty easy to replicate for your own businesses and targeted markets.
